Parts of the process

The environmental impact of the claims process was the subject of an insightful panel discussion at ILC’s recent The Environmental Challenges of Property Claims conference.

The event took place at etc.venues in London on 9 June and was supported by headline sponsor CoreLogic, as well as sponsors sponsors Gateley Vinden, Polygon, QuestGates, RSK Group and JCS Jewellery, along with ILC home and property division corporate partners Carpenters Group, Claims Consortium, CoreLogic, ICAB, Innovation Group and Sedgwick.

‘Process and Carbon Footprint’ was one of five panel debates held on the day, with Andrew Waddelove, Head of Sustainability, LV=, and Christian Aplin Director – Key Accounts, Sedgwick, taking to the stage to discuss what impact process has on the environment, and how streamlining the claims journey can reduce both cost and emissions.

Christian said that real change needs to come from the top in terms of strategy and impetus, and from the bottom in terms of practical, front-line improvements.

He said, “The more you get sight of the customer claim earlier in the journey the more there is an opportunity to change you thinking and do things differently, with better outcomes.”

The discussion also emphasised the need for greater collaboration with the supply chain, with Andrew revealing that 95% of LV=’s total carbon footprint is created within the supply chain.

“That’s where we need to make real change,” he said, adding that there can be an overlap between sustainability, cost and customer service, with savings in time, materials and mileage all reducing emissions.
