Video doorbells and home security cameras are becoming increasingly popular. But if you think these new technology innovations will lead to you getting a discount on your home insurance, you are mistaken.
Industry experts say insurers are measuring whether your home is at risk of burglary based on 10-year-old guidelines, because insufficient research has been done on the effectiveness of the new devices, such as the Amazon-owned doorbell Ring.
“For the vast majority of providers, there is limited-to-zero benefit for your insurance premium if you get video home security or a video doorbell installed — that’s the blunt truth,” said Chris King, head of home insurance at Compare the Market.
