ILC announces Solera Audatex UK partnership

Thatcham Research confirms new test centre  

Thatcham Research will develop a new centre of excellence at Gamston Airport after acquiring Gamston Aviation Limited.  

The UK’s only ‘not-for-profit’ insurer-funded automotive research centre will use the facility for the testing and research necessary to ensure new mobility technology is introduced safely and effectively. This includes active-safety and assisted and automated driving systems.  

Enterprise commits to Reading expansion 

Enterprise is investing more than £1.1m in relocating and upgrading two branches in Reading. The investment will also create sis new jobs in the town while supporting a three-fold expansion of its vehicle capacity in the town. 

Enterprise opened its first UK branch in Reading in 1994. 

AkzoNobel and Microsoft agree innovation partnership 

AkzoNobel and Microsoft are jointly setting up a virtual laboratory to explore how quantum computing could accelerate the development of high-performance and more sustainable paints and coatings. The two companies will use the virtual laboratory to conduct experiments using quantum computing and other Microsoft Azure cloud services. 

Meanwhile, AkzoNobel has launched the Collaborative Sustainability Challenge, a new initiative designed to accelerate carbon reduction in the paints and coatings industry. 

Audatex to provide free apprenticeship training 

Audatex is offering one apprentice a month a free spot on its AudaEnterpriseGold certification course. The new initiative is being introduced with the support of the NBRA and automotive apprentice charity AutoRaise. 

The two-day, £600 course provides apprentices with AEG certification in vehicle damage assessment and is being introduced to help tackle the crippling skills shortage in the sector. 

Hylane supports EV switch 

Hyzon Motors will supply 18 fuel cell electric trucks to Hylane, a wholly owned subsidiary of DEVK Versicherung, one of Germany’s largest motor insurers.  

Fleet owners can then rent the trucks from Hylane on a pay-per-mile basis, with Hylane also agreeing to cover maintenance and downtime costs. It hopes by minimising the risk for customers it can help accelerate the switch from diesel to zero-emission vehicles. 

Qualcomm acquisition enhances ADAS range 

Qualcomm has enhanced its ADAS solutions with the acquisition of Arriver from SSW Partners. It will now incorporate Arriver’s Computer Vision, Drive Policy and Driver Assistance technologies into its Snapdragon Ride platform portfolio 

Nakul Duggal, Senior Vice President and GM, Automotive, Qualcomm, said, “As we become a key technology partner to the automotive industry, Arriver’s Driver Assistance assets will accelerate our efforts to deliver a leading ADAS solution as part of our Snapdragon Digital Chassis platform.”

CoreLogic enhances EagleView partnerships 

CoreLogic and EagleView have expanded their long-term collaboration in the property and casualty insurance. The partnership was first established to automate claims processing further, catalyse growth and improve contractor and insurer experience. 

The enhanced collaboration ensures the continued availability of EagleView’s roof and wall measurement products through CoreLogic’s insurance platforms.  

Meanwhile, CoreLogic will now discontinue its SkyMeasure product line. 

Marsh announced digital breakthrough 

Insurance broker and risk advisor Marsh has launched a new property analytics solution that moves property risk management from a slow, manual process into a digital experience with real-time, on demand actionable insights. 

Part of the company’s Blue analytics suite, the new solution digitalises clients’ primary risk data — including construction, occupancy, protection, and exposure — and uses artificial intelligence and machine learning to identify anomalies.  

By feeding this data into other Marsh analytics solutions clients can immediately view and quantify their property risks and act accordingly.

ILC ClaimsTech launches 2022 programme  

ILC launched an exciting and ground-breaking year of events with the ILC ClaimsTech 2022 launch event at The Loading Bay in Shoreditch, London.  

Sponsored by CoreLogic, the evening provided a fantastic opportunity for industry colleagues to network and share their experiences of a fluctuating market, before a keynote address from world leading futurist Richard Watson and a panel debate including Michael Porter, Senior Vice President, International, CoreLogic Protect, and Martin Milliner, Claims Director LV=.  

Mastercard cuts ribbon on Dublin tech hub 

Mastercard has opened its new campus-style European Technology Hub in Dublin, Ireland. The new site will be home to more than 2,000 people as Mastercard expands its workforce by 975. 

Ed McLaughlin, President of Mastercard Operations and Technology, said, “We are thrilled to open the doors to our new European Technology Hub in Dublin, which will serve as an innovation engine for our company across the region and beyond. Sensa links with Sedgwick 

Sensa, the first proactive insurance company, has announced that Sedgwick, will serve as the third-party administrator (TPA) for its recently launched automotive insurance. 

Sedgwick’s comprehensive, end-to-end claims and loss management offering will utilise Sensa’s analysis of vehicle damage and bodily injuries to optimise an efficient claims process as Sensa rolls out across the US.

“The biggest challenge I see is the hangover of Covid on the judicial system where I believe the courts are still processing the backlog of claims; this has resulted in longer case lifecycles which will impact the industry. More recently, we have seen some positive signs that the courts are processing claims much quicker, which is beneficial for all parties.”

Latest OIC data revealed 

The Official Injury Claims data for the period 1 December 2021 to 31 March 2022 shows over 95,000 claims were made during the period meaning nearly 210,000 have gone through the service since its introduction at the end of May 2021. 

The most recent report highlights nine per cent of claims were ‘unrepresented’ whilst 91% were ‘represented’ by law firms, alternative business structures or claims management companies. 

The percentages of represented and unrepresented claimants remain consistent with previous reports. 

Industry interview: Jim Loughran, CEO – e2e Total Loss Vehicle Management

Survey finds customer value service over price 

A new survey conducted by the Chartered Insurance Institute has found that insurance customers value service over price. 

Its latest Public Trust Index surveyed 1,000 consumers of home, motor and travel insurance between December 2021 and January 2022, and revealed that confidence the insurer will pay out, convenience of service, loyalty rewards and quick payments were all valued above price. 

FCA reveals three-year strategy 

The FCA has launched a new strategy to improve outcomes for consumers and in markets throughout the UK. 

The three-year strategy prioritises resources to prevent serious harm, set higher standards and promote competition. The regulator will also, for the first time, hold itself accountable against published outcomes and performance metrics. 

A key focus of the strategy is shutting down problem firms, which do not meet basic regulatory standards. The FCA is recruiting 80 employees to work on the initiative, which will protect consumers from potential fraud, poor treatment and create a better market.
