Tell us about your role. What do you do, and what do you find most interesting about it?
As Senior Business Analyst, I manage a team that are involved with tech project development.
This can include:
- Developing system processes and functionality across Copart’s internal systems.
- Working with every area of the business to understand new development requirements in order to continuously meet our customers’ needs.
- Working alongside teams to understand issues they may be encountering and identifying improvements to increase efficiency.
- Supporting our members (who purchase vehicles from our online auctions) by continuously developing Copart.co.uk
What I love about my job is that I get to work with every area of Copart and interact with so many like-minded teammates who share my passion for technology.
As a team, we are involved with every project, from specifying requirements and working with developers to put those requirements into the system, through to testing and supporting the business after go-live.
Every day is so different from the last! Copart is a company that is determined to stay ahead of the curve with new tech features and functionality, so that means we always have plenty of projects to work on. We are lucky to be involved with every aspect of system change, from start to finish.
What made you want to work in this industry?
I have always had a passion for cars. I’ve owned numerous fast and loud cars, as I’m sure many of my Copart teammates and friends have seen! Working for a company that handles over half a million vehicles a year helps fuel that passion and it makes work a lot more enjoyable when you are genuinely interested in what your company does.
Having worked abroad in many different countries in my previous role, it was nice to be settled again in the UK. My son was born a month before I started with Copart, now 7 years ago, so it was also important for me that I could enjoy a good work-life balance.
I have been lucky enough to visit all Copart UK and Ireland sites, except for Belfast, so I need an excuse to be able to complete that list! No matter which site you visit, all of our Copart teammates are always so friendly and welcoming.
What do you see as the biggest challenge to your industry in the next year?
With Copart being a market leader, our biggest challenge is to continuously collaborate and innovate for our customers. Technology is becoming an increasingly important factor in that, and at Copart we are always thinking of new ways to keep improving and moving forward.
It’s very hard to believe now, but when I first started at Copart, we completed the receiving of vehicles on paper, by hand, and using a separate camera from which we had to extract images from the memory card.
We have worked hard over the years to automate and move to completely paperless processes. In addition to our 100% online auctions, we have developed a completely contactless digital journey for sellers and buyers, including digital vehicle documentation, online payment options, and our own Copart apps for collecting, receiving, and delivering vehicles.
This not only means we have faster, slicker, and safer processes, but more importantly we can provide a better level of service and quality of data to our customers.
How would you like to see the industry improve in the future?
We will continue to streamline our systems and ensure everything is fully integrated. We are currently in the process of moving across from an internal legacy system to a brand-new platform. This has been a massive change, which has taken some time, but will be hugely beneficial for our business once fully completed.
The use of mobile phone applications is another area that will continue to grow and improve. We have the ability to take 360 degree internal and external images from our handheld receiving devices and capture engine sounds. We will always look to enhance these apps and make sure they provide the best customer experience for the user.
Copart’s continuous investment into technology shows our determination to remain an industry leader and continue being the first to the market with new and innovative ideas.
If you could give your 16-year-old self a piece of advice, what would it be?
To have no regrets. Everything happens for a reason, so don’t dwell on or regret anything. I’d also tell myself to see as much of the world as I can. There are some truly amazing places and people out there!
