The inaugural Insurance DataLab Lloyd’s Underwriting Ratings has named Hiscox-managed Syndicate 33 as the best syndicate in the Lloyd’s market with a score of 75% for 2023.
Its performance was buoyed by a market-leading rating for improvement in its underwriting result after reporting a £184m underwriting profit, an increase of £90.3m on the previous year.
Also scoring well were Lancashire-managed Syndicate 2010 (74%), Aspen-managed Syndicate 4711 (73%), Asta-managed Syndicate 4242 (72%), Aegis-managed Syndicate 1225 (71%), and Chubb-managed Syndicate 2488 (70%).
The research rated every Lloyd’s syndicate across three key metrics – underwriting result, aggregate underwriting result over the last three years, and the improvement in the underwriting result for the most recent year.
Insurance DataLab co-founder Matt Scott said, “The Insurance DataLab Gold Awards seek to recognise the best syndicates and managing agents in the market, not just today but over the longer term, which is why we look at historical performance in addition to the most recent underwriting result.
“Each of our Gold Award winners have demonstrated exceptional performance in what has been an exceedingly difficult market, showing their expertise in delivering best-in-class underwriting performances. We would like to congratulate them all on their achievements.”
