
The latest Official Injury Claim data has revealed that the average time from claim to settlement has increased in each of the last three quarters.
Settlement times rose from 175 days in the second quarter of 2022 to 207 days in the third quarter to 227 in the last three months of the year.
Meanwhile, the data also found that 73,385 claims were registered from October to December 2022, of which just 9.5% (6,942) were unrepresented compared to 90.5% (66,443) which were represented.
A total of 22,630 claims were settled during the same period, meaning 76,873 claims have now been settled since the portal went live.
The data has also revealed that 28.9% (20,223) of claims submitted in the last quarter of 2022 were covered solely by the whiplash tariff, while 67.8% (47,475) were mixed claims and 96.7% (67,698) included a whiplash-tariff element.
The Official Injury Claim (OIC) service was developed by the Motor Insurers’ Bureau (MIB) on behalf of the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) and has been operational since the Whiplash Reforms were introduced at the end of May 2021.
